Parish Social Ministry at Assumption is dedicated to living out the Gospel call to serve others, especially those most in need. Through outreach programs, volunteer efforts, and partnerships within the community, the ministry supports individuals and families facing challenges such as poverty, food insecurity, and isolation. Rooted in compassion and Catholic social teaching, Parish Social Ministry encourages parishioners to put their faith into action by promoting dignity, justice, and care for all people. |
SOCIAL MINISTRY OUTREACH PROGRAM
The Parish Social Ministry Program is available for individuals and families that are struggling to stretch their food budget. We serve those within our geographical boundaries regardless of race, legal status or religious affiliation. We can also refer those needing assistance to any program appropriate to their needs. Our Social Ministry Program consists of dedicated volunteers who assist individuals who live within our parish boundaries. Our clients are struggling either financially or emotionally and need support and direction.
Our program works closely with Catholic Charities, Long Island Cares and other community organizations to assist our clients. The food pantry is available for clients that need to stretch their food budget. If you or someone you know need our assistance, please contact us using the information below.

We are grateful for the continued support of our parishioners. In the Sunday bulletin, we list particular items of need for the Food Pantry. However, we accept any non-perishable food items as well as toiletries, paper goods and cleaning products. These items may be left in the donation box in the back of the Church or dropped off at the Parish Office.
The Parish Social Ministry Program is also happy to accept gift cards from Walmart, ShopRite, Stop & Shop and other local stores. These allow our clients to purchase items that are not available in our Food Pantry. In addition, parishioners also make monetary donations to the Outreach Program. These donations are used to provide financial assistance to clients who need help with rent, medical bills or other needs. If you make a financial donation, please indicate that it is for our Outreach Program.
We have put together a booklet of resources that includes many programs that are helpful for people in difficult situations. You can access the booklet by clicking on this link: Resources Booklet
